Mode Conversion Reduction in Curved Circular WaveguideFootnote*

Pages 99-108 | Received 01 Jul 1971, Published online: 17 Jun 2016

ABSTRACT

Knowledge of the frequency-phase constant diagram of the TE01mode and the TE/TM1n hybrid mode in circular circumferentially corrugated waveguide enable curvature mode conversion losses to be determined. Theoretical and experimental curves are given for the frequency-phase constant diagrams. For a given bend, mode conversion to the TM/TE11 hybrid mode is virtually eliminated. Bandwidth and mode conversion loss are then determined by coupling to the TE/TM12 hybrid mode.
