Abstract
The genus Pacarina Distant, Citation1905 is redescribed along with the description of the new species Pacarina shoemakeri sp. nov. Sanborn and M. Heath. The morphology, biogeography, calling song and thermal tolerances of P. shoemakeri sp. nov. are described and compared with the partially sympatric Pacarina puella Davis, Citation1923 ( = Cicada signifera Walker, Citation1858). A key to the species of Pacarina is provided. Pacarina, Beameria Davis, 1934, Ollanta Distant, Citation1905, Proarna Stål, 1864, Prasinosoma Torres, 1963, Ellasoneura Torres, 1964, Tympanoterpes Stål, 1861, Pompanonia Boulard, 1982 and Ariasa Distant, Citation1905 are formally assigned to the subtribe Guyalnina Boulard and Martinellli, 1996.
