ABSTRACT

The detection of Rift Valley fever virus in humans in the White Nile State of Sudan provided the impetus to investigate the mosquito fauna of the state. In October 2018, adult mosquitoes were collected in rural areas of Al Jabalain in the south of the state as part of entomological surveys to investigate mosquito vectors of the virus. Specimens of Coquillettidia chrysosoma (Edwards) were collected in association with the water hyacinth Eichhornia crassipes (Mart.) Solms-Laubach. The finding of this species in White Nile State confirms its presence in Sudan after 80 years since it was last recorded.
