VIII.—The Brachiopoda of Martin's “Petrificata Derbiensia”

Pages 97-118 | Published online: 13 Aug 2009

Abstract

The Lower Carboniferous Brachiopod Species described by William Martin in 1793*, in “Figures and Descriptions Petrifactions Derbyshire,” and 1809, “Petrificata Derbiensia,” are invalid by ruling of the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature. (1950, Bull. Zool. Nomen. iv, 16–18, p. 450; and v, p. 114.) Application is being made to the Commission for the validation of seven of Martin's trivial names, i.e., resupinatus, productus, semireticulatus, crumena, pugnus, trigonalis, subconicus. Anomia striatus Martin has been dealt with by the International Commission in “Opinion 100”. The remaining thirteen species—Anomites giganteus, crassus, punctatus, scabriculus, aculeatus, acuminatus, lineatus, cuspidatus, rotundatus, acutus, glaber, triangularis and sacculus are considered in the present paper and referred to subsequent authors (see p. 114).
