Studies on the biology of the kelp-fly Coelopa in Great Britain

Pages 155-177 | Published online: 17 Feb 2007

Summary

The occurrence of Coelopa was plotted around the mainland of Great Britain and was found to be made up of an irregular distributed series of colonies each centred upon a site of recurrent deposition of ‘wrack-beds’. The pattern of events at a single colony was observed over 2 years and a generalized description of the variability encountered in the life of the colony is given. Finally, the degree of isolation between colonies is discussed.
