Summary
The occurrence of Aedes (Stegomyia) novalbopictus in Sri Lanka is confirmed, and the adult female and egg of this species are described and illustrated for the first time. Notes on the morphology of the adult male, pupa and 4th instar larva, as well as the biology of the species in Sri Lanka are provided. Morphological variations in the Sri Lankan specimens, and differences between the Sri Lankan form and the typical form of Ae. novalbopictus are discussed. It is concluded that a subspecific ranking for the Sri Lankan material is not justified at present.
