Tasmanian intertidal Talitridae (Crustacea: Amphipoda). Palustral talitrids: two new species of Eorchestia Bousfield, 1984

Abstract

Two new species of palustral talitrid amphipods, Eorchestia palustris sp. nov. and E. rupestris sp. nov., are described and figured. Their relationships to other Eorchestia spp. and to the wider Tasmanian talitrid fauna are discussed briefly. These plesiomorphic species inhabit the lower levels of saltmarshes (E. palustris) and rocky shores (E. rupestris).
