Techniques for Enhancing Contrast In the Electron Microscopy of Biological Specimens

Pages 201-211 | Received 01 Apr 1960, Published online: 22 Jul 2016

Abstract

Recent developments in methods for enhancing contrast in the electron microscopy of biological specimens are reviewed. The treatment of tissue sections with various reagents and possible histochemical methods applicable to electron microscopy are discussed. For the study of viruses, bacteriophages and the larger protein molecules high resolution can be achieved in the negative contrast technique.
