Diazo Intermediates for Graphic ArtsFootnote

Pages 96-101 | Received 14 Jan 1964, Published online: 22 Jul 2016

Abstract

The diaza intermediate functions satisfactorily between ariginal silver positives and the sensitized metal, etc., of the final printing process. The relationship between printing light sources, the sensitivity of the diazo intermediate and the spectral absorption of the dye image have been studied relative to the spectral sensitivity of various final processes. Fluorescent tube lighting of the “actinic blue” type is preferred and involves no lack of fidelity in the intermediate image within wide exposure tolerances. Silver densities of 14 and 08 can be converted to a dye density of 17 through one and two diazo operations respectively.
