Abstract
Kirillov and his co-workers hove published evidence showing a fine structure in the obsorption spectrum of photochemically coloured silver halides. In moking comparable meosurements on emulsion coated plates, an apparent “fine structure” was obtained consisting of a series of interference maxima. This is caused by a small difference in the refractive indices of the gelatin and the glass plate. It is concluded that precautions are necessary to avoid misinterpreting the effect as fine structure or distorting any fine structure already present.
