Abstract

A distribution of illuminance which is sinusoidal in one direction and uniform in the perpendicular direction is obtained in the image. farmed by a lens the pupil of which is a narrow slit, of a pattern of repeated opaque and clear areas demarcated by sine-curves. The slit acts as a (ilter of spalial frequencies. The image is recorded photographically under conditions of exact tone-reproduction. In this way a test-object with sinusoidal transmittance is obtoined, which is used for meosuring the modulation tronsfer functions of lenses and photographic materiols.
