Abstract

Although it is now recognized that in the presence of hydroquinone and sulphite, Phenidone does not oxidize further than the l electron stage to a free radical, oxidation in alkaline solution in the absence of hydroquinone. results in a series of highly coloured products. The separation of these products by chromatography and electrophoresis is described, derivatives of Phenidone being investigated as well as Phenidone itself.
