Abstract
Electronic structures of several mo no-substituted benzenediazonium cations are calculated. The large red shift of the absorption spectrum with increase of the electron donating power of a substituent can be interpreted in terms of the intramolecular charge-transfer. The change of the near ultraviolet absorption bands with the position of the substituent can also be reasonably explained. The mechanism of the photodecomposition of mono-substituted benzenediazonium salt is discussed on the basis of the measurements of ESR and emission spectra.
