On the Influence of Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) during the Synthesis of Ultrafine Emulsions

Abstract

The influence of PVP as well as the influence of the excess of silver ions, and the quantity of silver iodide in the crystal phase, on the physical ripening of Lipmann’s emulsions are investigated. It is established that PYP favours the formation of ultrafine emulsions. Its inhibitory influence on physical ripening makes it possible to regulate and equalize the activity of the gelatins, used in the synthesis of Lipmann’s emulsions.

Emulsions with a resolving power of 3200 1/mm satisfactory sensitivity and edge sharpness are synthesized.

Résumé

On a étudié l’influence du PVP, de l’excès d’ions argent et de la teneur en iodure d’argent dans la phase cristalline sur la maturation physique des émulsions Lipmann.

On a constaté que le PVP favorise la formation de grains extrèment fins. Son action inhibitrice sur la maturation physique lui permet de régulariser et d´égaliser l´activité des gélatines utilisées dans la préparation des émulsions Lipmann.

Des émulsions ayant un pouvoir de résolution de 3200 1/mm, une sensibilité et une netteté de bords satisfaisantes ont été obtenues.

Zusammenfassung

Der Einfluts von PVP und anderer Faktoren (Überschuts an Silberionen, Konzentration von Silberjodid in der Kristallphase) auf die physikalische Reifung von Lippmann-Emulsionen wurde untersucht. Dabei konnte bestätigt werden, dats PVP die Bildung extrem feinkörniger Emulsionen begÜnstigt. Die hemmende Wirkung von PVP auf die Ostwaldreifung ermöglicht es, die Aktivität der fÜr die Herstellung von Lippmann-Emulsionen verwendeten Gelatinen durch Zusatz von PVP zu regulieren. Auf diese Weise konnten Emulsionsschichten mit einem Auflösungsvermögen von 3.200 1/mm bei ausreichender Empfindlichkeit und Kantenschärfe hergestellt werden.

Riassunto

E’ stata investigata l´influenza del PVP (Poli-Vinil-Pirrolidone), così come l´influenza dell´eccesso di ioni Ag e della quantità di ioduro di Ag nella fase cristallina durante la maturazione fisica di una emulsione di Lipmann.

E´ stato stabilito che il PVP favorisce la formazione di emulsione a granulo ultrafine.

La sua azione inibitoria sulla maturazione fisica rende possibile controllare ed eguagliare l´attività delle gelatine usate nella fabbricazione delle emulsioni tipo Lipmann.

Sono state fabbricate emulsioni con potere risolutivo di 3200 1/mm, buona sensibilita e buona definizione.
