The Solubility of the Silver Halides in Potassium Thiosulphate The Identification of the Solids in Equilibrium with Solution

Abstract

The solubilities of silver chloride, bromide and iodide in potassium thiosulphate solutions are reported. Crystalline solids separating from the solutions supersaturated with respect to silver halide were examined by X-ray diffraction and chemical analysis. The empirical formulae of six potassium argentothiosulphates are given.

Résumé

On a déterminé la solubilité du chlorure, du bromure et de l’iodure d’argent dans les solutions de bromure de potassium.

Les solides cristallisés formés à partir des solutions sursaturées ont été examinées par diffraction de rayons X et analysées chimiquement.

Les formules empiriques de six argentothiosulfates de potassium sont données.

Zusammenfassung

Die Löslichkeiten von Silberchlorid, Silberbromid und Silberjodid in Kaliumthiosulfat-Lösungen werden mitgeteilt, Die aus den bezüglich Silberhalogenid übersättigten Lösungen ausgeschiedenen Kristalle wurden sowohl durch chemische Analyse als auch mittels Röntgenbeugung untersucht. Die daraus empirisch bestimmten Formeln von sechs verschiedenen Kaliumargentothiosulfat-Komplexen Werden angegeben.

Riassunto

Sono riportate le solubilità del cloruro, bromuro e ioduro di argento in soluzioni di tiosolfato potassico.

I solidi cristallini che si separano dalle soluzioni sovrasature, in rapporto all´alogenuro di argento, sono stati esaminati mediante diffrazione di raggi—X ed analisi chimica convenzionale.

Si riportano le formule empiriche di sei possibili argentotiosolfati.
