Abstract

A dynamical model of spectral sensitization is proposed which incorporates in it the statistical distribution of energy levels of arrays of dye molecules adsorbed on real crystal surfaces. Using only measurable quantities, without adjustable parameters, it permits rough quantitative calculations of the efficiency of sensitization in a system in terms of the fraction of molecules which satisfy an energetic criterion for sensitization. A semi-quantitative treatment of desensitization is also possible using the same formalism.
