Study on Properties and Photographic Application on Solid Organic Dyes

Abstract

Certain olid organic dye, which had been thermally evaporated on a substrate such as glass, were found to change physically as well as chemically by light irradiation and thermal treatment. This paper deal with the mechani m of such phenomena. The analytical results suggest dimer formation by light irradiation and lactone formation upon heating. An imaging system can be designed utilizing the above phenomena which give a positive from a negative image.

Résumé

On a constaté que certains colorants solides déposés par sublimation à chaud sur un substrat tel que le verre sont modifiés aussi bien physiquement que chimiquement par irradiation à la lumière et traitement thermique. Le présent mémoire envisage le mécanisme de ces phénomènes. Les résultats analytiques suggèrent la formation de dimères par irradiation à la lumière et celle de lactone par chauffage. Un système donnant des images positives à partir d´images négatives peut être élaboré en utilisant les phénomènes ci-dessus.

Zusammenfassung

Bestimmte organische Farbstoffe, die auf eine Glasoberfläche aufgedampft wurden, zeigten physikalische und chemische Veränderungen nach Bestrahlung mit Licht und thermischer Behandlung. Die Arbeit untersucht die Mechanismen dieser Phänomene. Die analytischen Ergebnisse lassen auf eine Dimerisierung durch Lichtbestrahlung und auf eine Lacton-Bildung durch Erhitzen schließen. Der Effekt kann zum Aufbau eines Kopiersystems verwendet werden.

Riassunto

Estato trovato che alcuni coloranti solidi, depositati per evaporazione su un supporto come il vetro, cambiano di caratteristiche, sia chimiche che fisiche, per irradiazione luminosa o per trattamento termico. Nel presente lavoro si indaga sul meccanismo di tale fenomeno. I risultati analitici suggeriscono la formazione di dimeri a seguito dell´irradiazione luminosa; mentre un trattamento termico dovrebbe portare alla formazione di un lattone. Su queste basi, si può pensare ad un sistema per riproduzione di immagini sia in forma positiva che informa negativa.
