Spectral Sensitization with Ten Cyanine Dyes I. Response at Microsecond Exposure Times

Abstract

Ten cyanine dyes, adsorbed to cubic- and octahedral-grain bromide emulsions, exhibit unexpected losses in spectral sensitization at microsecond exposure times. These losses are attributed to high-intensity reciprocity failure of secondstage sensillzallon processes.

Résumé

Adsorbés sur des cristaux cubiques ou octaédriques d’émulsions xà base de bromure d’argent, dix colorants cyanine ont une action sensibilisatrice moindre pour des temps d´exposition de l’ordre de la microseconde. Cette diminution inattendue d´efficacité est attribuée aux écarts à la réciprocité à haute intensité affectant le second stade de la sensibilisation.

Zusammenfassung

Bei der Untersuchung von 10 Cyaninfarbstoffen, die an kubischen bzw. oktaedrischen Silberbromidoberflächen (photographische Emulsionen) adsorbiert waren, wurde bei Expositionszeiten im Mikrosekundenbereich eine unerwartet niedrige Sensibilisierbarkeit der betreffenden Emulsionen beobachtet. Dieser Effekt wird auf das Auftreten eines Hochintensitäts-Reziprozitätsfehlers in der sekundären Stufe des Sensibilisierungsprozesses zurückgeführt.

Riassunto

Dieci coloranti cianinici, adsorbiti su cristalli cubici ed ottaedrici di emulsioni al bromuro, presentano impreviste perdite di sensibilità spettrale per tempi di esposizione dell´ordine del microsecondo.

Tali perdite vengono attribuite a difetto di reciprocità per alte intensità interessanti processi relativi al secondo stadio della sensibilizzazione.
