Photosensitive Film Formation On Copper

Abstract

When copper foil was dipped into aqueous solutions of copper (II) halides a photosensitive layer formed on the copper, which blackened if the foil was subsequently exposed to light. Scanning electron micrographs of the above photosensitive layer were taken before and after exposure to sunlight. X-ray diffraction patterns were taken of the copper and photosensitive layer and a tentative mechanism proposed.
