Abstract
Tanning developer solutions possess some characteristic properties which are reviewed with reference to an earlier paper. Gelatin cross-linking requires two distinct couplings which may be simultaneous or separated in time and possible operating mechanisms are further discussed. The properties of the solutions can be considerably modified by various auxiliary components including sulphite, and in the latter case unexpected effects following aerial oxidation are described.
