Abstract

Reduction sensitization of monodisperse cubic or octahedral AgBr emulsion leads at shorter digestion times and/or milder reduction conditions to emulsions of increased overall speed but without any preference of latent image formation at the site, where the reduction centres have been created. These centres—probably the smallest reduction specks—behave like hole traps during exposure. After longer and/or stronger reduction conditions specks are formed which determine latent image topography and hence act like electron traps.
