Properties of a Radiographic System with Lead Oxide Binder LayersFootnote

Pages 60-63 | Received 15 Nov 1976, Published online: 22 Jul 2016

Abstract

On account of its high X-ray absorbance tetragonal lead oxide is of interest as a photoconductor for electroradiographic systems. Since layers of sufficient thickness and size are necessary, binder layers of this substance have been investigated. The various steps in the preparation of PbO binder layers are reported: these are the preparation of the powder and Its processing to form a layer, and the final treatment of the layer to obtain a high X-ray sensitivity. Binder layers cannot readily be used for the classical formation of X-ray images (e.g. in xeroradiography) because of the porosity and insufficient mechanical stability of the layers. A procedure is reported in which the latent electrostatic charge image can be produced directly on dielectric foils.
