Principles of a High-Speed Non-Impact PrinterFootnote

Pages 186-188 | Received 15 Oct 1976, Published online: 22 Jul 2016

Abstract

The maximum printing speed of conventional mechanical line printers is limited to about 2,500 lines per minute. For these printers the manufacturing requirements and costs are high and material stress, reliability and life time are critical. To reach much higher printing rates and better print quality non-impact printing methods have to be used.

The concept and principles of a non-impact printer with a speed up to 20,000 lines per minute will be given. An electrophotographic print station using a photoconductor drum, a laser beam character generator and electronic control by microprocessor are the main parts of the new device for data processing. Features such as high print quality, variable font printing with different sizes and styles, forms described.
