The Effect of the Charge of the Developer Ion on Development Rates

Pages 5-6 | Received 13 Jun 1977, Published online: 22 Jul 2016

Abstract

The effect of the charge of the developer ion on the induction time ean be ascribed to a change in the value of the heterogeneous rate constant which essentially generates an overpotential. Thi effect is experimentally verified. From the corrosion model of development’, the calculated overpotentials can be used to estimate relative values of T. The calculated values are in good agreement with the experimental values of James’. This corroborates the approach of Hillson2 who first pointed out that the charge on the developer does not affect the thermodynamics but only fhe kinetics of development.
