Polarographic Determination of 5-Nitrobenzimidazole in Photographic Processing Solutions

Abstract

The polarographic behaviour of the antifoggant 5-nitrobenzimidazole (AF-2) has been investigated. In the presence of surface-active compounds, such as polyethylene glycols and /j-phenylenediamine colour-developing agents, two reduction waves are observed. Procedures for the rapid and direct determination of AF-2 in photographic processing solutions by alternating current polarography are described. No pretreatment of samples is required.

Résumé

Le comportement polarographique de l’antìvoile 5-nitrobenzimidazole (AF2) a été étudié. On observe deux vagues de réduction en présence de composés actifs superficiellement tels que les polyéthylène-glycols et les développateurs couleur dérivés de la p-phénylènediamine. Des procédés de dosage direct et rapide de PAF2 dans les solutions de traitement photographique par polarographie en courant alternatif sont décrits. Aucun prétraitement des échantillons n’est nécessaire.

Zusammenfassung

Das polarographische Verhalten des Anti-Schleiermittels 5-Nitrobenzimidazol (AF-2) wurde untersucht. In Gegenwart oberflächenaktiver Substanzen-wie etwa Polyäthylenglykol und Farbentwicklersubstanzen aufp-Phenylen- diamin-Basis-werden zwei Reduktionsstufen beobachtet. Es werden Verfahren für eine schnelle und direkte Bestimmung von AF-2 in photographischen Verarbeitungsbädern mittels Wechsel- spannungs-Polarographie beschrieben. Dabei ist eine Vorbehandlung der Proben nicht erforderlich.

è stato studiato il comportamento polaro- grafìco dell’antivelo 5-nitrobenzimidazoIo (AF-2). In presenza di sostanze tensioattive, quali i poliossietilenglicoli e le sostanze sviluppatrici per colore, si osservano due onde di riduzione. Vengono descritte le modalità per una determinazione diretta e rapida dell’AF-2 nei gabni di trattamento con polarografia a corrente alternata. I campioni non richiedono un pre-tratta- mento.
