Abstract
After reviewing various methods for the preparation of AgI single crystals, this paper describes experiments based on the growth of such crystals from AgI-H I-H2O solution. Hexagonal pyramids of the β-phase have been produced by a gel diffusion technique, in which supersaturation is attained by slow water dilution. On the other side, hexagonal plates and pyramlds of the β-phase were grown by a convective circulation method in which supersaturation occurs by tcmperature Increase. Some characterIStic properties, e.g. purity, structure, refractive index, optical absorption, photoluminescence, crystallographic polarity and photographic sensitivity, have been measured and are discussed.
Sono state misurate e vengono discusse alcune proprietà caratteristiche quali purezza, struttura, polarità cristallografica e sensibilità fotografica.
