The Photographic Researches of Hurter and Driffield

Pages 174-180 | Received 03 Jan 1979, Published online: 22 Jul 2016

Abstract

Hurter and Driffield proposed the H & D speed system in 1890. Prior to that they worked on aspects of daylight photometry from which the Actinograph exposure calculator evolved in 1888. The critical reception of their photochemical investigations led to discussions on photometers and to further work on the nature of the latent image and the developed image.
