Abstract

Part 2 of this series described quantitatively the photoetching of stainless steel. U ing similar techniques and a scanning method to measure depths of etch, the photoetching of mild steel has now been investigated. Whilst this batch of mild steel was found to be readily etched, it is susceptible to corrosion. In contradistinction, stainless steel is not easy to etch but does possess the valuable property of being corrosion resistant. These two materials therefore formed the basis of an interesting comparative study.
