The Mechanism of Lith Development. IIFootnote*

Pages 185-191 | Received 26 Feb 1979, Published online: 21 Jul 2016

Abstract

It is shown that lith development is also possible with developing agents other than with hydroquinone. Hydroquinone, however, has especially favourable characteristics, since it ensures a very high rate of reaction during the phase of rawpid bulk reduction. This high rate of silver formation results from direct electron transfer via the semiquinone radicals to the site of reduction by contrast to the diffusion-controlled reduction with an ascorbic acid developer.
