The Creation of Efficient Reflective Lippmann Layers in Ultra-Fine Grain Silver Halide Materials using Non-Laser Sources

Abstract

Results are reported of experiments designed to create Lippmann reflective layers in high resolution silver halide materials. Unusual results using Agfa Gevaert's 8E75HD material eonlirm the routine achievement of reflectances in excess of 90% with insignificant colour shift. Recordings to date have been achieved with the D lines of sodium, but the use of infra-red discharge sources is discussed. The method has been applied to the copying of holographically generated metallized surface relief with the resultant transference of chromatically dispersed full parallax relief images into colour selective Lippmann holograms. A discussion is given of the possibility of using narrow band natural light for the process.
