Measurement of Spatial Coherence through Speckle Interferometry

ABSTRACT

A new method for the measurement of spatial coherence is proposed. The method is based on the use of doubly exposed plates exhibiting two displaced copies of the same speckle pattern. A theoretical analysis is presented establishing the relationship between the fringes observed at the output of the interferometer and the degree of spatial coherence of the illuminating field. It is shown that the method presents the advantage of a greater luminosity with respect to more traditional interferometric set-ups.
