The Deformation of a Photographic Film

Pages 92-96 | Received 27 Apr 1987, Published online: 21 Jul 2016

Abstract

A study has been made of the mechanical réponse of a photographic film to an applied stress. Both the coated film and the base material alone show viscoelastic behaviour. The true Young’s modulus has been determined for the various components of the film. It is apparent from the results that the base plays a dominant role in the deformation and that these measurements give little information that is directly relevant to the stressing of the emulsion grains.
