Multi-frequency Microwave Radiometry for Retrieval of Temperature Distributions in the Human NeckFootnote

Abstract

Multi-frequency microwave radiometry may be used to image the temperature variation with depth in the human body. A theoretical study has been carried out to investigate the feasibility of retrieval of temperature distributions in the human neck. The inhomogeneous nature of the tissues in this region has been taken into account by a two-dimensional analysis. The weighting functions at different frequencies, which determine the contribution of the total signal of each small sub-region of tissue, are presented, the retrieval algorithm is given and the results of retrievals which indicate the resolution achievable by this method are shown
