Summary
Four hundred and thirteen Ss ranging in age from 17 to 64 years and about evenly divided between males and females completed the 40 self-report items of the Interpersonal Communication Inventory. A principal components analysis followed by a varimax rotation revealed 11 orthogonal factors which appeared to be related to particular dimensions of interpersonal communication. All factors were interpretable and intuitively satisfying, and an oblique rotation failed to improve the simple structure. Dimensions in the present study are related to existing theory of interpersonal communication and other empirical data.
