Summary
Observer characteristics related to the imitation of a creative model were studied in 167 sixth grade boys and girls. In general, all Ss who observed a videotaped model giving fluent but not original or flexible responses gave more fluent and flexible responses than did others in different modeling conditions. More original responses were given by the group who observed no model. Race of the observer was found to be related to creative imitations as was locus of control. Academic achievement level and general self-esteem were additional observer characteristics found to influence responsiveness to a creative model. These relationships were complex, however, and this study of the facilitation of creativity clearly delineates the need for further research.
