Summary
Personal experience is the most frequently offered reason for belief in ESP. Questionnaire data were collected form 126 subjects pertaining to belief in ESP, frequency of personal ESP experiences, ESP experiences of relatives, and confidence in their own ESP ability. Findings suggest that no correlation exists between belief in ESP and personal experience and that the assumed relationship is due to attribution. Belief in ESP appears to be positively correlated with confidence in personal success at ESP tasks, while personal experiences are strongly related to occurrences of ESP in the family. This finding suggests that personal ESP experiences are considered different from the general concept of ESP.
