Summary
This investigation focuses on a factor analysis of responses to 108 items which were designed to explore three clusters of male attitudes—traditional, contemporary, and emerging—as they apply to four key areas of male functioning: relationships or involvements with women, children, work, and other men. Items were administered to 277 men of differing backgrounds and ages in Southern California. Seven major factors emerged for interpretation: breaking the stereotype, working women, loss of power, emotional control, appearing masculine, women at home, and toughness.
