The Effects of Mood and Type and Timing of Influence on the Perception of Crowding

Pages 155-158 | Received 02 Dec 1983, Published online: 02 Jul 2010

Summary

White American male (n = 74) or female (n = 101) undergraduates read scenarios describing enjoyable or unenjoyable high-density experiences in which the S was given power or control over the activities during the experience or over the termination of the experience. The results indicate that mood independently influenced the perception of crowding and that female Ss were influenced by power and control considerations while male Ss were not.
