Abstract
This Japanese Industrial Standard is almost entirely taken from MIL-STD-105D, with certain changes made in the switching rules and in the reduced inspection tables. These changes were explained in some detail in the JQT article “MIL-STD-105D and the Japanese Modified Standard” published in April 1970. In the letter published below, the ASQC Standards Committee opposed the proposed changes, especially that involving the addition of a limit number table for tightened inspection. A rejoinder was then made by the principal Japanese authors. Meanwhile, Professor Pedro Mendizabal of the University of Madrid made extensive Monte Carlo simulations of the MIL-STD-105D tables which illuminate certain aspects of the differences.
