Multiple Criteria Sampling Plans for Total Fraction Nonconformance

Abstract

In many industrial environments, a product must be tested against multiple specifications and pass all of them in order to be accepted for use. The basic methodology of single sampling plans is extended to multiple criteria by defining tests for each criterion such that passage of all tests will lead to acceptance of, at most, a given overall fraction nonconforming with a specified risk. The acceptance probability (operating characteristic) and the average outgoing quality for a given overall fraction nonconforming are evaluated. These are no longer single values but are ranges of values whose magnitudes depend on the individual sampling plan for each criterion.
