The Exact Relation of Taguchi's Signal-to-Noise Ratio to His Quality Loss Function

Abstract

Taguchi's quality loss function and his signal-to-noise ratio are reviewed for the three types of static measurable performance characteristics. For the cases of “smaller the better” and “larger the better’ quality characteristics, the precise relation is derived and tabulated. For the “nominal the best” case, no exact relation could be found but a relation in inequality form is provided between the two Taguchi quality functions.
