One-Sided Nonparametric Comparison of Treatments with a Standard in the One-Way Layout

Abstract

Nonparametric methods are presented for testing the null hypothesis H_o: ξ₁ = … = ξ_k = ξ_o, where ξ_i is the median of the i^th population and ξ_o is specified, against one-sided alternatives. Several simple tests are described along with a multiple comparisons procedure. These methods are nonparametric analogues to the one-sided parametric methods proposed by Mee, Shah, and Lefante in an earlier issue of this Journal. The parametric and nonparametric methods are illustrated using the same data set.
