The Relation Between Work Values and the Perception of the Work Setting

Pages 189-193 | Received 06 Oct 1980, Published online: 30 Jun 2010

Summary

Job values and work-setting perceptions across a number of dimensions were compared for 52 satisfied factory employees. Support was found for a person-environment fit or interactionist model of job satisfaction as nearly all worker values were complemented by a work environment characterized as supportive. Test-retest reliabilities across a one-year time period showed employee values to be somewhat more stable than perceptions of work climate. Correlation between what employees value (or see as important) and corresponding provision from the work setting is suggested as a rationale for positive work attitudes.
