ABSTRACT
Gila Pueblo near Globe is the type site for Gila Polychrome, and, although little published information is available, it is considered a “standard” Salado site. Excavation of one room in 1958 resulted in the recovery of 18 pottery vessels, 4 burials, and numerous lesser artifacts. The pottery provides important data on the ceramic assemblage in use at one period. Among the lesser artifacts was the only known cloth-wrapped copper bell from the Southwest. The bell was spherical, wrapped with double cloth above the resonator slit and was attached to a cord for suspension.
