Tepecano House Types

Pages 24-27 | Published online: 25 Jul 2016

ABSTRACT

The Tepecano Indians of northen Jalisco, Mexico, have lost nearly all of their Indian culture with one major exception. The wall-enclosed, thatched-roof pithouses (built in pairs for cooking and sleeping) still shelter the Tepecano. Variation of this house type built around caves and rock shelters are found at Alquestan, the only remaining Tepecano village.
