Elko or San Pedro? A Quantitative Analysis of Late Archaic Projectile Points from White Tanks, Yuma County, Arizona

Pages 413-432 | Published online: 26 Jul 2016

ABSTRACT

Studies in Late Archaic contexts in western Arizona indicate the presence of two morphologically distinct projectile points: Elko Corner-notched and San Pedro. Quantitative analyses of these forms substantiate the morphological distinction and suggest that more rigorous empirical studies of Archaic projectile points in Arizona and the Southwest may help identify ethnic group boundaries as well as increase analytic reliability and validity.
