Finding African American History in the West

Abstract

This paper discusses the challenges in identifying Afro-Latinos and African Americans in the Archaeological record due to a poor understanding of the history of these people in the west and the lack of culturally identifiable material. It is argued here that there is a need for researchers to be more deliberate in their approach to historical research and help reveal the hidden history of people of Afro-Latino or African American descent.
