Historic Sheep Grazing in Arizona*

Abstract

Sheep production in Arizona was a very early industry and economic driver in the state. Few, however, seem to be aware of its history or associated archaeological remains. This purpose of this paper to give a brief history of the development of the sheep industry in Arizona and an overview of the more common types of archaeological sites that would represent this industry.

La producción de ovejas en Arizona fue una industria muy temprana asi como un motor económico en el estado. Sin embargo, pocos investigadores parecen estar al tanto de su historia o restos arqueológicos asociados. El propósito de este artículo es para presentar una breve historia del desarrollo de la industria ovina en Arizona y una descripción general de los tipos de sitios arqueológicos más comunes que representarían a esta industria.
