Abstract
Spectra of β-naphthol single crystals in the 5700-6800 cm−1 range in polarized light have been measured. Dichroic ratios of 2vCH and 2vOH. bands have been calculated and compared with experimental values. The results confirm the assumption concerning the linearity of a hydrogen bond in β-naphthol. It has also been found that it is possible to sum contributions of transition moments of different oscillators in the total intensity of a group of overlapping bands. This fact may be understood in terms of an effective charge model concept.
