Abstract

Interference colors produced by birefringent plastic layers can be used in conjunction with the twisted nematic liquid crystal displays to produce attractive blue vs. gold LCDs when viewed in reflection. Brightness of the retarder LCD is maximized by using low tilt anmgle alignment, thin galss on the rear of the display and a full reflectiofr.
